PLAY PROGRAM

We believe the foundation for a healthy, active lifestyle starts at a young age. To promote this belief, we formed the PLAY program (Physical Literacy for Active Youth) during the Winter semester of 2018. Our PLAY volunteers facilitate mentally and physically stimulating activities once a week at the University Infant Toddler Centre (UITC) and Students' Union & Community Early Learning Centre with kids aged 3 to 7.

Children participate in activities that are tailored to their interests and encourage future participation. Activities emphasized teamwork, communication, and coordination between the kids. Through PLAY we have been able to provide resources for parents as well as informative lessons for youth to address rates of obesity and diabetes in pediatric populations. We've created interactive presentations for students and have created educational brochures and newsletters for parents.

Ultimately, our vision through PLAY is to set a foundation for these children to develop a long-term passion for a healthy, active lifestyle throughout their schooling and into adulthood.
